Residents and city leaders joined to honor Dr. Martin Luther King in Atlantic City on Monday.
Starting at the school that bears the slain civil rights leader’s name, the march continued to the Civil Rights Garden, where leaders talked about the current times, and King’s legacy.
“We’re facing times that we thought were passed,” Mayor Frank Gilliam said, echoing other speakers who touched on the current presidency.
“The president has caused us to go back in time to a time when Dr. King was living,” Gilliam said. “Although we see signs of progress, we also see great signs of regress.”
But he added, touching on the state takeover: “Because love is the key that basically over comes all that, it’s going to be important for Atlantic City. Love is basically going to have us win this fight.”
The group then traveled to the St. James AME Church.
