Augello 'was the boss,' Mulholland says in Kauffman plea

  • News

Joseph Mulholland was a worker paid about $1,000 to get OxyContin prescriptions from Dr. James Kauffman, he said Thursday.
Mulholland became the first to plead guilty in the alleged racketeering scheme named as the reason behind the killing of April Kauffman.
Freddy Augello, a former leader of the Pagans Motorcycle Club, was the boss, said Mulholland, who pleaded to second-degree racketeering.
He will be sentenced at the judge's discretion.
Augello and the now-deceased Dr. Kauffman were allegedly partners in the scheme.
"Ramblings from a lifelong drug addict," Augello told BreakingAC from the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Augello was due in court Thursday as well, but opted not to appear, attorney Mary Linehan told the judge.
She asked that the case be scheduled for trial, which could begin Sept.11.
