N.C. man gets three years for part in Kauffman drug ring

  • News

The final co-defendant in the deadly drug ring that led to April Kauffman's death was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday.
Glenn Seeler, who pleaded to second-degree racketeering, was given a flat sentence by Judge Bernard DeLury, meaning there is no minimum.
The North Carolina man was in court earlier this month for sentencing, but was allowed an adjournment when it became clear he would be getting prison time.

Seeler was not handcuffed and allowed to use his cane as he was led out of court to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. He will be transferred to prison from there.
Defense attorney Timothy Reilly had previously argued for a probationary or a suspended sentence, as others in the case were given.
"(We're) disappointed that Mr. Seeler didn't receive a non-custodial sentence, however, Judge DeLury is a fair person and imposed sentence within the range permitted under the law," Reilly told BreakingAC.

Joseph Mulholland is currently in the Central Reception and Assignment Facility awaiting his prison assignment.

The only other defendant charged just in the drug ring to serve prison time is Joseph Mulholland, who was sentenced to four years Feb. 8. He is currently in the Central Reception and Assignment Facility, state Department of Corrections records show.
Mulholland will be eligible for parole next February.
Seeler pleaded guilty in July, saying that he would get Oxycontin prescriptions from Dr. James Kauffman along with his estranged wife, Cheryl Pizza, even though they had no medical reason for the drugs.
"My husband would hold on to them," Pizza said during her plea. "I wasn't allowed to touch them or any of the bottles or nothing."
Seeler’s visits to the endocrinologist for his diabetes would include getting 120 Percocets, he told the judge. He would get to keep half the 30 mg. pills, and turned the rest over Ferdinand Augello.
He said Augello would then hand them off to sell.
Augello is currently serving a life sentence after a jury convicted him of orchestrating April Kauffman's killing and leading the drug-trafficking network with her husband.
Seeler testified against Augello at trial.
Augello has maintained his innocence.
