Hamilton Township officer injured when car crashes into patrol vehicle

A Hamilton Township police officer was seriously injured in a crash Friday night. Officer Leo Rudolph was in his marked patrol car diverting traffic from downed wires on Route 322 when a vehicle heading west crashed into the front of the patrol car just after 10 p.m., police said. Rudolph, who had on his lights, suffered serious injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to the report. The other driver, Isaiah Rasul Muhammad Smith, of Whitsett, N.C., was not injured. Smith was arrested for driving while intoxicated and issued summonses for careless driving, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without a seatbelt, failure to yield to an officer’s direction and failure to move over. Further charges are pending. The Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad assisted at the scene. The investigation is being handled by Sgt. Tim Graczyk and Officer Keone Osby.
