Unfounded report of weapons outside school leads to ACHS lockdown

  • News
Atlantic City High School went into lockdown Wednesday morning, after a student notified a staff member of a potential threat outside the school. "All students and faculty are safe," the department wrote in a tweet, shortly after the school went into lockdown. "Parents are asked not to call the school or 911 at this time." Police already were at the school as a precaution as the high school allowed those who chose to join in the protest honoring the victims of the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 people were killed. Atlantic City officers were notified weapons may be hidden outside the school, so the building was put into lockdown while officers searched the property, including the use of K-9 dogs. The inside was searched as well. Several students were interviewed as potential witnesses. No weapons were found. Students were dismissed at their regular time. “We thank the students, faculty, and staff of the Atlantic City High School for their cooperation during today’s lockdown,” Chief Henry White said. “We would also like to thank the New Jersey State Police and our law enforcement partners for their quick response to aid in this investigation.”
