Two armed Atlantic City men arrested within minutes in separate incidents

  • News

Atlantic City police arrested two armed suspects in unrelated incidents within minutes of one another Friday.

At 2:30 p.m., Detectives Nick Berardis and Brian Hambrecht tried to stop two men in the 500 block of Haddon Avenue, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.

The two men walked backward as they saw the detectives coming toward them, the bumped into each other as they turned to run toward Route 30, according to the report.

One of the suspects, George Tazewell, was holding his waistband as he ran, Fair said.

As the officers chased him, Tazewell dropped the gun on to the road, Fair said.  The handgun was loaded with hollow-point ammunition.

Tazewell, 20, of the city, was able to evade custody for a short period of time before he was arrested inside a residence in the 500 block of Caspian Avenue.  He is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.

The second male that fled was not located.

Officers Alberto Valles and Christopher Dodson had responded for that chase, but then saw another man with a handgun in the 900 block of Virginia Court, Fair said.

Jamil Miller, 30, of Atlantic City, was arrested without incident and found to have a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine.

He is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a high-capacity magazine and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He also had an active warrant.
