Atlantic City's chief financial officer is out, state says

  • State
Atlantic City is looking for a new chief financial officer. Michael Stinson, who has served in the position since 2010, will be replaced after his term expires at the end of the year, Department of Community Affairs spokeswoman Lisa Ryan confirmed to BreakingAC. The DCA has control over the city. Stinson was notified two weeks ago. An advertisement for the job was
posted online last week. "Job advertisements have been posted, and the city and state will review resumes submitted and invite qualified candidates to come in for an interview," Ryan said. "The city and DCA appreciate Mr. Stinson’s years of service to Atlantic City and wish him well in his future endeavors." She did not say why the decision as made. Stinson is a lifelong resident of Brigantine and a 1979 graduate of Holy Spirit High School in Absecon. Stinson has been with the city through rough financial times, including hundreds of millions in borrowing and million-dollar casino tax settlements. Reached at his office, he said he could not comment publicly. Neither Business Administrator Jason Holt nor Mayor Frank Gilliam could be immediately reached for comment. City Council President Marty Small said only that the state did not renew Stinson: "It was their call."
