Sakiyah Quick just planned to show a student's mom how well he was doing.
But the Atlantic City Day Nursery teacher was so proud of the work she and her colleagues are doing, she decided to share it with her Facebook friends.
Now, thousands have viewed it.
The video shows Ibn Abdur Rahim Abdullah calling out his numbers as Quick flips a book with colorful numerals on it. But the 1-year-old doesn't just know them in English. He then repeats the process in Spanish and then Japanese.
"That particular video was just to show my passion for children and to show my Facebook followers that he could count in Japanese, and he's only 1 year old," she said.
The Atlantic Cape Community College graduate has been teaching at the day care for three years. In January, she will be attending Rutgers University to get her bachelor's in psychology.
Quick said something struck her while watching a TED talk by the late Rita Pierson, a 40-year educator.
"Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understand sthe power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be," Pierson said.
"And while they're in my care five days a week," Quick said, "I'm their champ."
