An Atlantic City man was arrested shortly after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint, police said. The victim stopped Officer Fitzroy Simpson just before 8 a.m. Monday, saying he had been robbed at Georgia and Atlantic avenues, Sgt. Kevin Fair. Simpson immediately ran after the suspect, later identified as Joel Jones, ignored orders to stop and fled into a residence in the north block of Florida Avenue, according to the report. Jones was taken into custody, Fair said. A loaded handgun was found outside the residence on the sidewalk, and Jones had hollow-point ammunition in his pocket. The man who reported the robbery had left the scene and could not be located, Fair said. Jones, 30, is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
