  • News
Six residents were arrested this weekend after Atlantic City police were called to a large group arguing and preparing to fight. When police arrived at the 1300 block of Drexel Avenue at about 6:11 p.m., they started to disperse the crowd, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. That’s when a woman approached the officers and said a man had pointed a handgun at her. Officers found the man, later identified as 18-year-old Daquan Smith, and several others in the 1400 block of Adriatic Avenue, Fair said. The men refused to stop for the officers, who were eventually surrounded by 30 to 40 people, according to the report. No gun was found. But Smith was charged with obstruction of justice. Basil Albright, 23, allegedly assaulted one of the officers and then resisted arrest. During the struggle with Albright, a bag of marijuana fell out of his pocket, Fair said. Samantha Bowe, 27, was arrested after picking up the bag and trying to walk away. She was arrested obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana. Albright was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and resisting arrest. Wahid Albright, 32, was arrested when he allegedly interfered with Albright’s arrest. He was charged with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. Levar Davis, 19, began shouting at officers, Fair said. He then tried to punch an officer after he was ordered to leave. When he began to throw a punch at the officer, a woman grabbed on to his arm to prevent the attack, according to the report.  The officers tried to arrest Davis, but he resisted arrest and an assaulted an officer. Davis was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, failure to disperse and disorderly conduct Chanel Green-El, 18, allegedly tried to interfere with an arrest. She was not arrested at the scene, but when she arrived at the Public Safety Building to see those arrested, she was charged with obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct and failure to disperse. All six who are Atlantic City residents were released on summonses.
