[gallery ids="32762,32763,32761"] A rapper originally from North Jersey was arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun on an Atlantic City store employee who got in an argument with his filmmaker father. Both Jameel Benjamin, 23, and his, Jimmie Benjamin Jr., who now live in Indianapolis, were arrested Saturday, along with the owner of the car where the gun was found, according to the report. Jimmie Benjamin, 44, got into a fight with the employee as he tried to return something to the store in the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The elder Benjamin started to yell at the employee for refusing the return, which is when police say the younger Benjamin got involved, police said. Jameel Benjamin — who goes by Base — left the store and got a handgun from a car and returned, threatening to shoot the employee, Fair said. He left the store after he was told an employee called 911. Officers Christian Ivano and Daniel Arra responded at about 1:30 p.m., and saw a man matching the suspect’s description open a car door, reach under the driver’s seat and then close the door and walk away, according to the report. Officer Brent Dooley’s K-9 partner, Jax, whose trained to sniff explosives, gave a positive indication outside Benjamin’s car, Fair said. Officers then found a loaded handgun with hollow-point ammunition under the front seat. The Benjamins were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition and contempt of court. Jameel Benjamin was additionally charged with making terroristic threats. The older Benjamin was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Known as J.M. Benjamin, he is an author who began his writing career while serving time in federal prison for drug dealing, according to records.
