An Ocean County couple are charged with taking nearly $700,000 to repair homes, and then doing little to no work.
Adam Nevius, 44, and his wife, Kimberly Atkinson, were arrested for failure to make required disposition, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.
The owners of Coastal Restorations & Construction of N.J. allegedly entered into 17 contracts with homeowners and two with subcontractors for repairs to homes that mostly were damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The alleged crimes happened between 2014 and 2017.
Instead of doing the work, the couple is accused of using the money other ways.
Atkinson, 50, is also charged with theft by deception for her allegedly lying on the mortgage application for their Manahawkin home.
The investigation was led by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit.
