Linwood man resigns as Ventnor firefighter then pleads guilty in prescription fraud

  • News

A Ventnor firefighter from Linwood is the latest to plead guilty in a multimillion dollar prescription fraud ring that included police officers, teachers and firefighters using their health benefits for big payouts.
Ed Sutor Jr., 36, was hired by the Ventnor City Fire Department in August of 2013, Fire Chief Mike Cahill told BreakingAC.
He resigned Friday, attorney John Zarych said.
"My client appeared in court voluntarily today because he wanted to accept responsibility, and he did," Zarych said after the plea hearing.
Cahill said he only knew Sutor was going to court Friday, not about the plea.
But Friday afternoon he became the 24th person to plead guilty in the case, which included his cousin, Ventnor firefighter Corey Sutor.
Seven people were arrested last month in the case, including alleged leaders William and Sara Hickman, a Northfield husband and wife.
