Atlantic County rallies for Overdose Addiction Awareness Day

  • News

Atlantic County marks International Overdose Awareness Day on Saturday beginning with a rally in Atlantic City.
Recovery Force will host the gathering from 1 to 4 p.m. at O'Donnell Memorial Park.
It's one of dozens across the country meant to create one voice calling for action to end the epidemic of addiction and overdose deaths.
There will also be training in administering Narcan, the day after AtlantiCare offered free doses at their pharmacies.
Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler will be there with the county's Hope One bus that travels the county with recovery specialists available with information about paths toward help.

The event encourages those with stories about addiction, recovery or overdose to share their experiences.
The day will end with a vigil from 6 to 8 p.m. at William Morrow Beach at Higbee and the bay in Somers Point.
There, names submitted of those lost to overdose will be read.
