An Atlantic City man was arrested after he answered his door with a gun while police were investigating a hit-and-run.
Officers Fitzroy Simpson and Marinela Pali found the car that fled a crash just after midnight New Year's Day in the alley on the first block of North Boston Avenue, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
The vehicle was registered to an apartment on that block, so they knocked on the man's door, according to the report.
Looking through a window, they saw a child playing video games go to the back of the apartment, and then a man approached the door, the report said.
When Winerd Prevard answered the door, he was wearing only shorts and had his hand in his waistband, holding a gun, Fair said.
Seeing it was police, Prevard allegedly tried to close the door, and fled to the back of the apartment.
In the bedroom, he threw the gun on the bed and was arrested without incident, Fair said.
The handgun was loaded, according to the report.
Prevard, 26, is charged with obstruction of justice, unlawful possession of a handgun, certain person not to possess a weapon, and several active warrants.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
