An Atlantic City man admitted Monday to being part of a plan to kill a man in 2012.
Demarice Bennett, 32, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in the July 29, 2012, killing of Sedrick Lindo, who died in a hail of bullets as he sat on a porch on Carver Hall with a woman and her toddler son.
Four men were charged in the killing, which also left the then-2-year-old boy with an injury from shrapnel.
Khalil Blackwell was the architect of the plan, Bennett told Judge Patricia Wild on Monday. He said the shooter was Blackwell’s cousin, Mujahid Blackwell, who was only 16 at the time.
Under the plea agreement, Bennett waived his right to appeal and must testify against the Blackwells if they go to trial. That is scheduled for April 29.
The plea comes about two weeks after co-defendant Joshua Cross was sentenced to 40 years in the case, after a jury found him guilty of murder last month.
Bennett, who was set to go to trial this week, faces 10 years in prison when he is sentenced.
He already has credit for 6½ years. With the 85 percent he must serve under the No Early Release Act, he has about two years left on that sentence.
