An Egg Harbor City couple was arrested after a man allegedly stole money from a church in Longport.
As a woman was locking up the Church of the Epiphany just after 7 p.m. Sunday, she told police she noticed that someone was inside the church.
The witness then saw a man she described as about 6 feet tall with a husky build and facial hair, according to the police report.
The man was seen removing cash from a secured collection box in the church, the witness said.
When questioned, he left the church and got into a gold four-door sedan driven by a woman.
The car was then seen heading toward Atlantic City, according to the report.
Information at the scene helped identify the couple as Sean and Catherine Steudle, police said.
Egg Harbor City police were told to pick up the couple and hold the two.
The couple was found by Egg Harbor City police just before 9 p.m., and they were detained.
Sean Steudle, 33, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property and violation of a court restraining order.
Catherine Steudle, 35, was charged with conspiracy to commit theft.
Both were released on a summons.
