Ocean County sergeant admits using law enforcement database for personal reasons

  • News

A former Long Beach Township police sergeant pleaded guilty to accessing law enforcement computer databases for personal reasons.
Gerard Traynor, 53, who is also a Long Beach Island attorney, admitted Thursday that in April 2018, he used the system to obtain information on an individual for personal reasons, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said .
In exchange for the plea to third-degree computer criminal activity, he faces non-custodial probation when he is sentenced in September.
Traynor had to forfeit his job with the Long Beach Township Police Department along with any future public employment as a result of the plea. He has been suspended since his April 1 arrest.
