An Ocean County man was arrested for killing his mother six months after her death was believed to have been due to natural causes.
Carolyn Foster, 85, was reported unresponsive in her Manchester Township home on Jan. 13.
Police and medics arrived to find her dead.
Foster's age and medical history led to a determination that she died of natural causes.
But then a family member came forward to say the woman's son killed her, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.
The autopsy then found that there may have been other factors that contributed to her death, Billhimer said.
That led Billhimer and Manchester Police Chief Lisa Parker to have the investigation reopened.
It was determined Friday that 63-year-old Thomas Foster killed his mother, the officials said.
The manner of the killing was not released.
Thomas Foster was arrested without incident and is in the Ocean County jail pending a detention hearing on the murder charge.
