Atlantic City police are looking for a car involved in a hit-and-run that injured a resident early Saturday morning.
Nakia Stephens told BreakingAC she was by the Highgate just after 1 a.m., when she started to cross Absecon Boulevard and was struck by the car as it backed out of the parking lot.
“I tried to stand up and my ankle was broken,” Stephen said.
Two men got out of the car and sat her on the side of the building, saying they were going to call an ambulance and take her to her house, she said.
“Next thing you know, they were pulling off, and left me sitting there,” Stephens said.
'I know accidents happen... But they pulled off, so to me, it wasn't an accident now.'
She hopped inside the Highgate and told security, who called an ambulance.
Police were called at 1:06 a.m., Sgt. Kevin Fair confirmed.
The car is described as a yellow sports car, possible a Camaro, with the number 26 on the side.
Stephens now has to have surgery on her foot and is left wondering why the men left her like that.
“I wasn't say anything because I know accidents happen,” she said. “But they pulled off, so to me it wasn't an accident now.”
Anyone with information about the car or who may have witnessed what happened is asked to call police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
