The detention hearing for a Pleasantville man accused of killing a 15-year-old girl was postponed Wednesday.
Nahquil Lovest, 18, appeared briefly in court as attorney Alex Settle asked for a five-day postponement, allowed under bail reform.
Lovest is charged with murder in the killing of Naimah Bell, who was found dead inside a home on South Massachusetts Avenue just after 4 a.m. Thursday.
Six people were inside the recently vacated three-story home, according to the affidavit. Three others there along with Lovest said he was holding the gun when it went off.
An autopsy found Bell died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Lovest looked much different in court than he did in his mugshot taken Friday.
His long braids are now gone and his head clean-shaven.
There were a few people in court for Lovest, including a younger woman with a baby on her lap.
Lovest's defense attorney, former Cape May County Assistant Prosecutor Alex Settle, waived Lovest's first appearance.
The detention hearing is now set for Aug. 7 before Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury.
The public safety assessment — which is used to help determine whether a suspect should be held or released under bail reform — recommends no release, common for those charged with murder.
Lovest only recently turned 18, and does not appear to have an adult record.
