A car stop led to two arrests and an alleged drug-production facility inside an Egg Harbor Township hotel.
Pleasantville Police Sgt. Ryan VanSyckle called for an Egg Harbor Township narcotics-sniffing K-9 after stopping a car at the entrance to the Victorian Inn Hotel on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday.
When the K-9 arrived, VanSyckle ordered the front seat passenger to get out of the vehicle. But Lamont Scott refused, Capt Matt Hartman said.
Scott then resisted VanSyckle, Sgt. Girard Tell and Patrolman Marlon Hernandez as they tried to get him out, according to the report.
Scott, 32, of Egg Harbor Township, assaulted the officers and then fled on foot, Hartman said. He was caught in the rear area of Sam’s Wholesale Club by officers from Pleasantville and Egg Harbor Township.
Inside the car, police found 270 bags of CDS believed to be heroin packaged for sale. Scott also had $1,200 in cash on him, according to the report.
A search warrant was issued for the room, where police found about 2,200 bags of heroin, about 1.2 ounces of raw uncut heroin and several thousand unused pre-stamped heroin baggies and additional paraphernalia used to manufacture and package heroin, Hartman said.
In a Facebook Live video posted by driver Latosha Legette, Scott seems calm as he relays to a woman on the phone what has happened.
He tells her where he is and asks Tell several times about why the stop happened. Tell explains he was not the officer who stopped the car.
At one point, the officer looks in the passenger side window toward Legette and asks her if it's Facebook live. He then waves and identifies himself.
Both Scott and Legette were charged with maintaining/operating a drug-production facility, possession of heroin, distribution of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Scott was also charged with money laundering, obstruction of justice and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Legette, 46, of Mays Landing, was additionally charged with conspiracy.
They both are in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting detention hearings.
