Ventnor man faces eight years in sex assault of two young brothers

  • News

A Ventnor man who admitted to the 2016 sexual assault of two young boys faces eight years in prison under a plea agreement.
John Psota, 34, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault by contact against the brothers, whose mother left them with Psota on numerous occasions, according to the affidavit obtained by BreakingAC.
Both boys were interviewed back in 2016, when they were 6 and 7 years old.
Psota was arrested Feb. 21, 2018, and charged with 10 counts, including oral and anal penetration involving the 7-year-old.
The boys' mother told investigators that there were several occasions when she left her sons in Psota's care, and that sometime in late July or early August of 2016, her older son said Psota made him put lotion on the man's genitals.
Psota told the investigator that there were a couple of time when he was the sole caregiver for the boys and they stayed overnight.
Under the plea agreement, Psota faces eight years in prison, with no parole for at least 85 percent, or a little more than six years and nine months. He also would have to register as a Megan's Law offender, and would be subject to lifetime supervision.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in December, but that is pending a sex offender evaluation at the Avenel Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, which usually delays sentencing.

Editor's note: This story originally ran Oct. 24, when the plea deal was announced. It has been updated with details about the case, including the proposed sentence.
