A Ventnor man who admitted to the 2016 sexual assault of two young boys was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday.

John Psota, 34, pleaded guilty last year to two counts of second-degree sexual assault by contact against the brothers, whose mother left them with Psota on numerous occasions, according to the affidavit previously reported by BreakingAC.

The brothers were 6 and 7 at the time of the attacks in 2016.

Psota was arrested Feb. 21, 2018, and charged with 10 counts, including oral and anal penetration involving the older boy.

The victims were not in court Thursday, but both they and their mother were made aware of the deal, Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Flammer said.

The victims’ mother thanked the court for resolution in the matter, Flammer said.

Under the plea agreement, Psota was sentenced to two concurrent eight-year terms.

“I’m sorry for what I did and I understand the consequences for my actions and my behavior,” Psota told the judge. “I am very sorry.”

Psota must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, and then will register as a Megan’s Law offender with lifetime supervision.

He is expected to serve his sentence at the Avenel Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, whose evaluation recommended that placement.
