"He's going to be back better than ever," promises the mother of the 10-year-old critically injured in a shooting at a Pleasantville High School football game.
The young boy was caught in the crossfire when Alvin Wyatt shot Ibn Abdullah, authorities said Saturday.
As a sea of people ran from the gunshots, retired and off-duty firefighters ran toward the victims, Police Chief Sean Riggin noted at a news conference Saturday.
Retired Battalion Chief Neal Loch said the boy was bleeding from a neck wound.
As he helped, off-duty Firefighters Julio Sanchez and Ernest Alexander Jr. joined him.
"They ignored the danger to themselves, jumped into action right away and we're able to probably saved lives," Riggin said. "So we thank them very much for their service. While we're not surprised, we're definitely impressed."
News of the child's injuries had many thinking the worst, but those around him are not giving up hope and say he's a fighter.
Now, a GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for the long and expensive medical road ahead.
"Please help raise money for 10-year-old Micah as we prepare to face a journey of healing," the page asks, showing a picture of the boy flashing a bright smile.
Also known as "Dew," the boy remains in critical condition at Cooper Health Systems, under the care of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia doctors.
The Pleasantville Greyhounds were hosting the Camden Panthers on Friday night in the playoffs toward their run at a championship when about a half-dozen gunshots sent spectators running and those on the field to the ground.
Micah and Abdullah were badly wounded. A 15-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet.
Several retired firefighters rushed to the victims, while police on the scene tried to track down the perpetrator.
Wyatt, 31, was quickly taken into custody by a Pleasantville police officer, which four others ran.
The community came together in front of the high school late Saturday afternoon with the promise of more to come.
Meanwhile, Micah's mother posted a video of her son from 2017, showing him flexing.
"Just like in this video, he gone show ya’ll just how strong he is," she wrote.
