A suspicious person call led to the arrest of a man in multiple burglaries in Little Egg Harbor Township on Tuesday.
Police were called to Giffordtown Lane at about 6:20 a.m. by a resident saying someone was trying to break in the rear of their residence, police said.
The man fled before police arrived.
But further investigation led to Jason Smith, 34, of Little Egg, who was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and possession of heroin.
More investigation connected Smith to multiple attempted burglaries of motor vehicles, specifically in the township’s West Tuckerton section and off Wood Street in Tuckerton Borough.
Smith was charged with two counts of criminal attempt burglary by Little Egg police and two counts of criminal attempt burglary by Tuckerton Borough police.
He was taken to the Ocean County Jail.
Smith is also believed to have committed burglaries in the area of Stagecoach Road in the late hours of Sept. 26 to early Sept. 27.
