An Atlantic City man released this year after serving nearly eight years in prison is back in jail on drug and gun charges.
Lamar Cherry was the passenger of a car pulled over for speeding in Absecon last Saturday.
While the officer was speaking with the occupants, he detected the odor of drugs coming from the vehicle, police said.
That’s when they found Cherry had a .45 caliber handgun and suspected marijuana, according to the report.
Cherry, 27, was released from prison in February, according to state Department of Corrections records.
He was sentenced to eight years in 2011 for two handgun charges when he was 19, records show.
He served the mandatory three years of that sentence, and was released Aug. 19, 2014, only to go back four months later to serve the remainder of his sentence.
Cherry is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
