A substance found inside a child's candy bag following a trunk or treat event in Rio Grande has tested positive for heroin, the Cape May County prosecutor said.
Middle Township police first announced they were investigating Saturday, after the bag was found following the Family Success Center’s event.
Laboratory analysis confirmed the suspected drug was heroin, Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said Monday.
This is believed to be an isolated incident, but Sutherland and Chief of County Detectives Paul Skill warned parents to be vigilant in checking their candy after trick or treating.
