Atlantic City police are warning residents to take precautions after an increase in burglaries and thefts over the last several months.
The most victimized area is Venice Park and the Westside, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Many are crimes of opportunity with suspects entering unlocked cars or stealing one that is running, he said. Other incidents have been burglaries of residences or entering an abandoned home to conduct illegal activity.
Many of those arrested are juveniles, Fair said.“We are aware of the recent spike in crime and are attacking it aggressively with our police department to ensure our residents and their property are safe,” Mayor Marty Small said. “The troubling part of these crimes is the perpetrators are juveniles both male and female.
"It is unfortunate that these young people feel the need to commit crimes against our community when they should be enjoying their childhood and participating in clubs, sports and other related activities," Small continued. "The goal of my administration is to revamp the recreation department to provide many great quality of life activities to the youth in our community.”
The Police Department released a list to help avoid becoming a victim.
Anyone with
