A former Atlantic County official has been indicted for allegedly stealing county money while he worked for the superintendent of elections.
Michael Gibbons, 34, of Stratford, was charged last year with theft by deception and official misconduct.
On Tuesday, an Atlantic County grand jury indicted him on those charges, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Saturday.
Gibbons allegedly added unworked overtime hours to an employee’s time card around March 14, 207.
He then twice solicited that money back from the employee, Tyner said.
Gibbons is also accused of using public money to pay to two employees to clean out his mother’s attic.
That was theft of more than $500, according to the indictment.
The Camden County man faces three counts of second-degree official misconduct, a count second-degree pattern of official misconduct, two counts of third-degree theft by deception and one count of fourth-degree theft by deception.
Second-degree charges carry a potential sentence of five to 10 years, if convicted. Third-degree charges have a potential of three to five years.
The investigation is being handled by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Official Corruption Unit.
