'Major headway' in returning power to thousands

  • News

Atlantic City Electric said its made major progress restoring electricity to customers overnight after nearly 200,000 of its customers lost power Tuesday.
By Wednesday afternoon, more than 155,000 customers had their power back after Tropical Storm Isaias struck.
There were still about 37,000 customers without power as of 5:45 p.m.
“Our crews, contractors, and assistance personnel have made major headway in restoring service for our customers,” said Gary Stockbridge, region president of Atlantic City Electric. “We appreciate their commitment to safety and selfless work ethic as we work together to get our customers back up and running. We know it is difficult to be without electric service at any time, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we perform this difficult and grueling work to get their power restored.”
More than 1,325 A.C. Electric personnel worked to overcome the aftermath of storm, which included managing major tree damage, broken poles, downed wires and damaged electric equipment.
Based on the current damage, service for most customers will be restored by end of day Thursday, and the company expects all customers, including those in the most heavily damaged areas, to have their service restored by Saturday evening.
Tropical Storm Isaias was one of the most destructive and expansive storms to impact Atlantic City Electric’s service area, and ranking fourth all time in terms of customer power outages, the company said.
The storm’s high and sustained winds, heavy rains, and, in some areas, tornadoes caused extensive damage across the service area.

Customers are urged to stay away from downed wires and assume any downed wire is energized.
To report an outage or downed wire, call 800-833-7476 or report and track through our mobile app or our website at atlanticcityelectric.com/storm.
Customer can also text “OUT” to 20661 to report an outage. Customers must first text “ADD OUTAGE” to 20661 to sign-up for the service.
