An Atlantic City man was arrested Tuesday night after shooting into a crowd of people sitting at a picnic table, police said Thursday.
Officer Anthony Grajales-Prado heard gunshots in the 1500 block of Adriatic Avenue at about 10:20 p.m., and saw Dane Crippen Jr. running from the area toward his police car, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Seeing the car, Crippen turned around and ran the other way, according to the report. The officer then chased Crippen toward Brooklyn Avenue, where officers established a perimeter.
Crippen was found trying to conceal himself in high grass, Fair said. He was found in possession of 17 grams of marijuana.
Officers backtracked Crippen's path and found a handgun, according to the report. They also found shell casings in the area where the shots were heard.
Surveillance Center personnel found video footage showing Crippen shooting into a crowd of people sitting at a picnic table and discarding the handgun, Fair said.
The potential victims left before officers arrived and have not come forward.
Police are asking for them to contact the Criminal Investigations Section.
Crippen, 21, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
