A student at Mainland Regional High School was arrested for bringing an imitation firearm to school Thursday.A staff member told a Class III Linwood police officer assigned to the school that a student allegedly had a firearm his or her backpack, police said, not revealing the student's gender.The officer, along with school administration, responded to the student's assigned classroom and recovered the fake handgun from the student's backpack, according to the report.The student was not in the classroom at the time, but was arrested minutes later by the Class III officer, according to report.The student was charged with possession of an imitation firearm and possession of an imitation firearm in an educational institution, and then released to a parent at the direction of Atlantic County Juvenile Intake.The whole incident lasted just minutes, police said.
