UPDATE: Madle gets five years' probation

"You are the monster I see in my nightmares every night," the victim of a Wildwood bartender told him during sentencing Thursday. The woman told how she was raped by Zachary Madle inside her Stockton University dorm room in 2017, and then posted video of him touching her unconscious and naked. Madle, 26, was originally accused of sexually assaulting the woman, but pleaded guilty to lesser charges of invasion of privacy and fourth-degree sexual contact. Read more...

A Stockton University graduate accused of sexually assaulting a student and then posting it on social media pleaded guilty to lesser charges Thursday.Zachary Madle, 26, of Wildwood, faces no jail time under the plea agreement. He also will not have to register as a Megan’s Law offender nor will he undergo an evaluation at Avenel Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center, his attorney noted during the hearing.Madle admitted that he took video on his cell phone of the victim inside her dorm room on the Stockton University campus Feb. 15, 2017.She was not conscious at the time, he admitted in pleading to third-degree invasion of privacy. He then posted the video to Snapchat.Madle also pleaded to a fourth-degree charge of criminal sexual contact. In the video, he is seen rubbing the victim’s genitals, according to the charges. When Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury asked Madle to specify where he touched the woman, Madle first looked at his attorney.“Buttocks, inner thigh…” the judge then offered.“Inner thigh,” Madle said.“It was the right disposition of this case,” attorney Steve Scheffler said outside the courtroom. "These were the actions of a young man who was incredibly immature for his age. He has a tremendous amount of remorse for his actions.”Madle is set to be sentenced Feb. 13.He twice was denied acceptance into pretrial intervention, which allows a defendant to avoid prosecution.“The preparation and posting of the video, accompanied by music, vitiates any argument that defendant was so intoxicated that he did not realize the nature and quality of his acts,” Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Waldman wrote in a nine-page decision denying the entry into PTI.Madle had been the subject of civil suits involving the victim in this case and one other woman. Both have been settled, court records show.
