A Pleasantville police sergeant is on unpaid administrative leave after he was charged in a drunken-driving crash last year.
David Aristizabal, 39, of Egg Harbor Township, is charged with fourth-degree assault by auto in the Nov. 23 crash, court records show.
Aristizabal was heading west on Jimmie Leeds Road when he went to make a left turn on the Garden State Parkway entrance in front of a car heading east, according to the police report.
The other driver, 64-year-old Gary Gaskill of Galloway Township, and Gaskill’s passenger were both sent to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s nearby Mainland Campus with injuries.
No details of the severity were released.
In addition to assault by auto, Aristizabal was also charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, reckless driving and improper turn.
The case was transferred to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office on Dec. 6, court records show.
Pleasantville police are conducting an internal investigation concerning the crash, an official there confirmed. Until there is an outcome Aristizabal is on unpaid leave, but not considered suspended.
Aristizabal’s attorney did not immediately return a request seeking comment.
