Pleasantville man faces 10 years in killing of 15-year-old girl

  • News

A Pleasantville teen has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the killing of a 15-year-old girl last summer.Nahquil Lovest, 18, admitted to fatally shooting Na'imah Bell at about 4 a.m. July 25, inside a recently vacated Atlantic City home in the 100 block of South Massachusetts Avenue.Witnesses claimed Lovest was playing with the gun, and didn't mean to injure Bell, who also lived in Pleasantville.Three other teens who were there told police Lovest dropped the gun and broke down after the shooting. But the prosecutor in the case said that Lovest had been warned his actions were dangerous before the shooting.

“The defendant’s reckless handling of a firearm robbed Na’imah and her family of all of her potential," Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said Tuesday. "Now, two lives have been lost, which leaves us all wondering about who they could have developed into."Lovest faces 10 years in prison when he is sentenced next month. He would have to serve at least 85 percent of any sentence under the No Early Release Act.Lovest will be about 26 when he is eligible for parole."The reality is that there is no amount of time the defendant can serve that will bring Na’imah back to life," Tyner said.
