Atlantic City resident brings focus to good police interaction

  • News

A recent police stop in Atlantic City captured a resident's attention.
But it wasn't because of a big arrest or bad altercation.
Instead, Tahnee Croskey was moved by how respectful the officers were.
"Just watched ACPD officers and detectives stop/search and handcuff a man in a PA car non aggressive and it was handled so professionally," she wrote in a Facebook post Friday, tagging Mayor Marty Small and Gov. Phil Murphy. "They unhandcuffed him and literally treated him like a person.
"It’s a true example of how policing should be," she added.

With all the negative images of police officers getting attention nationwide, Croskey told BreakingAC she wanted people to see when things were done the right way.
The stop happened outside her home at about 10:30 Friday morning.
Four police vehicles and three suburbans stopped a black male who appeared in his 20s, she said.
They put him in handcuffs and talked to him, she recalled. After about three minutes, they took the cuffs off.
They then had him walk across the street so the K-9 could search the car.
With nothing found,he was allowed to go.
"I didn’t know any of the officers or people outside but I wanted people to know that not all officers are bad and actually do their job," Croskey said. "It was refreshing to see."
"That's the vast majority of law enforcement interactions, mundaneand equal parts respect on both sides," Atlantic City PBA President Matt Rogers said."There's no shortage of folks waiting to jump all in on a rare incident of alleged misconduct but far fewer who want to look at the average everyday. So thank you to the young lady and the local reporters who take the time to do just that."
The original call was one for service, Sgt. Kevin Fair said without giving details.
