An Atlantic City man was arrested with a gun and drugs after a city councilman alerted police.
City Council Vice President Mo Delgado flagged won Officer Bryant Mitchell just before 1 a.m. Friday, police said.
A man with a handgun was in the area of South Carolina and Drexel avenues, Delgado told the officer.
He gave a detailed description of the suspect, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Mitchell found the man within minutes. Antonio Gibson was engaged in a verbal dispute with another man, Fair said.
Mitchell could see the handle of a handgun sticking out of Gibson's pocket, according to the report.
Gibson, 45, was arrested without incident and the handgun was recovered, Fair said.
Police also found 11 bags of heroin and marijuana on Gibson.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain person not to possess a weapon, and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
Gibson is lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
"I'm sad this is being made a big fuss," Delgado told BreakingAC. "I wish we didn't have circumstances where people thought having a gun was necessary. My only thought was to prevent anyone being hurt."
