An Atlantic City man who allegedly threatened a man with a gun and then fled police was ordered held in jail FridayHasson Warren, 27, is accused of brandishing a gun at a man after the two allegedly had an earlier verbal altercation.Detectives saw Warren pointing the gun at the man as they investigated why two cars were stopped in the middle of the road in the 3800 of Crossan Avenue just before 10:30 a.m. last Friday.Warren's attorney argued that longtime illness dating to when the man was 10 or 11 makes it dangerous for him to be in the Atlantic County Justice Facility during the coronavirus pandemic.Justin Loughry, who has represented Warren for years, said his client has developmental issues and a comprised health situation."I really do fear for him being in the county jail," he told Judge Patricia Wild.He also said he didn't believe the gun was loaded and that ammunition found did not match the gun.But the gun's status has no bearing on the case, Assistant Prosecutor Aaron Witherspoon told the judge."I’m sure Mr. Warren didn’t approach (the victim) saying, 'I’m going to point this firearm at you. It isn’t loaded.'"Warren and the man had an earlier confrontation, where the victim threatened Warren and his girlfriend, Loughry said.Warren then went back and got the gun.But Warren seemed to disagree with this assessment, waving his hands and appearing to yell from the jail, where he appeared via video. His mic was muted, however, and the judge said she does not take testimony from the defendant during a detention hearing.Wild also questioned why Warren would return to the scene with a gun, after leaving the confrontation.Warren has a significant criminal history, scoring the highest in both failures to appear and likelihood to re-offend on his public safety assessment, which is used in helping determine detention under bail reform. The assessment recommended no release and also had a flag for new violent activity."Our community is rife with the use of handguns," the judge said. "Our community is rife with the brandishing of handguns. Someone in the community may have been injured by the actions of this defendant."The judge said a new hearing could be requested if the defense gets additional information on Warren's medical situation.
