An Atlantic City man is in jail after officers allegedly interrupted him pointing a gun at another man.Hasson Warren is then accused of ignoring orders by police to drop his weapon before running and ditching the gun.Detectives Alberto Valles and Anthony Abrams were alerted to the scene after seeing two cars stopped in the roadway in the 3800 block of Crossan Avenue at 10:23 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.They saw a man get out of each vehicle and then saw one of the men raise his hands in the air and back away, according to the report.That's when the detectives saw Warren pointing a gun at the unnamed man, Fair said.
Valles and Abrams got out of their car and confronted Warren, giving him commands to drop his gun, according to the report.Instead, Warren allegedly turned toward the detectives, refusing to drop his weapon.
"The detectives continued to give commands attempting to de-escalate the situation, but Warren continued to refuse before fleeing on foot," Fair said.
As the detectives chased him, Warren threw the gun into a residential yard, Fair said. The gun was then recovered.
Warren was apprehended by Sgt. Brian Shapiro, who took him into custody without incident, Fair said.There were no injuries.
Warren, 27, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, certain person not to possess a weapon, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
Warren previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in 2013, and was sentenced to a year in prison, court records show.He is currently in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
