Millville man arrested in assault on woman in Margate

  • News

A Millville man was arrested Wednesday morning, after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Margate, and fled.
Jonathan Harris, 38, allegedly picked up the victim by the waist from behind, then threw her to the ground, where she struck her head.
Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Armstrong was one of several witnesses on South Granville Avenue at about 9:19 a.m., and radioed police, according to the report.
Armstrong kept an eye on the suspect, and saw him heading toward Ventnor on Atlantic Avenue, police said.
Officers caught up with Harris on Barclay Avenue, where they ordered him to stop. He then fled, and police chased him for a short time before taking him into custody, police said.
The victim, a 52-year-old woman from Lafayette Hill, Pa., was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where she is being treated.
Harris is charged with third-degree aggravated assault and fourth-degree resisting arrest. He was being taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The case is being investigated by Officer Joe Hutchinson and Detective Erin Borrelli.
