Ventnor crash ends with vehicle into porch

  • News

A Pennsylvania man was issued ticketed after he allegedly caused a crash that ended with a vehicle crashed into a home Friday afternoon.
Howard Gewerz, 77, of Garnet Valley, Pa. was heading north on Melbourne Avenue at 12:37 p.m., when he failed to stop at the Monmouth Avenue intersection and collided with a car driven by a 17-year-old from Margate, Capt. Joe Fussner said.
The teen was traveling west. The crash caused him to exit the roadway and crash into the front porch of a nearby home, according to the report.
The residence sustained moderate damage to the front porch and steps area. Ventnor City Code Enforcement officials inspected the structure and determined that the property was safely for occupants, Fussner said.
The teen and his 17-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries, and were treated at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
The road was closed for about 45 minutes while the scene was cleared the Ventnor City Fire Department and Providence Towing, Fussner said.
Gewertz, who was not injured, was issued summonses for failure to stop and yield.
Patrolman James Arentz is investigating.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call police at 609-822-2101.
