EHT Megan's Law offender held on child pornography charges

  • News

An Egg Harbor Township man previously convicted of possessing child pornography was ordered held this week in a new case.
Anthony Badalamente, 29, allegedly had more than 1,000 items depicting the sexual exploitation of children, according to the charges filed this month.
An Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip about multiple videos and images being uploaded to a file-hosting service Aug. 21, according to the affidavit.
The uploads were from Oct. 7, 2019 to April 27 of this year.
Badalamente already is under lifetime supervision under Megan’s Law after he pleaded guilty in 2015 to endangering the welfare of a child for possessing child pornography when he lived in Somers Point.
He was given a suspended five-year sentence under the plea.
At a detention hearing this week, Badalamente’s attorney argued against the charge of sharing the files, as there was no indication anyone else had accessed them, Alex Settle said.
But Superior Court Judge John Rauh disagreed.
The judge also disagreed with the public safety assessment recommendation that Badalamente be released.
Badalamente remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. He faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison if convicted.
