Atlantic City man gets seven years for gun charge he got while free on ankle bracelet

  • News

An Atlantic City man found with a gun while out on monitored release in another gun case was sentenced to seven years in prison for the newer charge Monday.
George Tazewell, 23, was supposed to be sentenced June 30, after admitting to running from Atlantic City police with a gun on March 30, 2018.
Instead, Tazewell had been given a postponement to allow him to be out for his July 23 birthday. But he wound up in jail anyway, after Pleasantville police pulled over his pregnant girlfriend's car June 30, and a gun was found inside.
Tazewell pleaded guilty in that case Monday, and was immediately sentenced by Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury.
He was first sentenced on the older charge under the original plea agreement of five years with 3½ years of parole ineligibility. He was given 789 days of jail credit in that case.
The newer case carries a concurrent sentence of seven years with parole ineligibility for five years. He has 83 days of jail credits in that case.
Tazewell's "criminality is escalating," DeLury said when sentencing him.
He has five adult arrests with two prior convictions. His juvenile history includes 13 arrests with 12 adjudications.
Tazewell will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility until he is transferred to prison.
