A man wanted for killing a man in the Bronx last year was arrested in Atlantic City this week.
Jameel Campbell, 42, has been sought since November, when police identified him as a suspect in the shooting of a man allegedly over a woman.
"This investigation is a true example of law enforcement working together at all levels to successfully arrest a very dangerous individual,” said Susan Gibson, special agent in charge of the DEA’s New Jersey Division. “During this operation all steps were taken to ensure the safety of the public, and because of the arrest of Jameel Campbell the community is much safer.”
Ezequiel Rivera, 27, was shot in the chest Sept. 13, outside 1760 Bruckner Blvd., where he lived in Soundview, according to previous reports. He died at Jacobi Hospital.
Video released by NYPD Crime Stoppers shows a man walk up to Rivera, open fire and walk away as the victim flees.
More surveillance shows the suspect enter the frame in the blue hoodie worn during the shooting, then re-emerge in a white T-shirt with his face visible.
On Nov. 26, Campbell was named as a suspect.
Law enforcement recently received information that he was staying in Atlantic City, police said.
Campbell was arrested Tuesday without incident by the Atlantic City Police Department's Special Investigations Section and SWAT team along with members of the DEA Liberty Mid-Atlantic High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
“We are very pleased that we were able to assist the NYPD with the location of (Campbell)," Interim Officer in Charge James Sarkos said. "Effective law enforcement requires the collaboration and communication between agencies of all levels and that was demonstrated in this matter. I want to thank all of our local, state and federal partners for working alongside each other to capture the suspect.
“We will continue to work together with all of our law enforcement partners to arrest those responsible for committing violent crimes. Through this teamwork, we were able to remove a violent individual from our streets and hopefully brought some closure to the victim’s family,” Sarkos added.
Campbell is currently charged as a fugitive from justice and is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
