Somers Point surgeon among Trump's pardons

  • News

A Somers Point surgeon who served a month in federal prison in 2003 was one of 73 people granted pardons in President Donald Trump's last hours in office.
Dr. Fred Nahas pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing justice in a health care investigation in the 1990s.
The plea came after a six-year investigation into his billing practices.
The investigation uncovered no underlying billing fraud, the announcement noted.
U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew supports the pardon, it said.
Since his time in prison, Nahas "has spent the subsequent 18 years working tirelessly to regain the trust and admiration of his patients, colleagues and community," the release said.
