Pleasantville man arrested in two armed robberies

  • News

A Pleasantville man is in jail after he allegedly shot a gun after two armed robberies in one day.
Police were first called Jan. 12, after a woman said a man pulled a shotgun on her at Van Mar and Clematis avenues.
The woman was meeting the man to buy a PlayStation 5 for $500, she told police.
When the man pulled out a shotgun, the victim fled and later called police, Lt. Stacey Schlachter said.
That evening, police investigated an interaction between two men and another man, who pulled out a shotgun and fired once toward the two victims as they walked away, Schlachter said.
Pleasantville Detective Astrid Aureles and Detective Sgt. Brandon Stocks investigated the incidents and found them to be connected by the same suspect, Schlachter said.
Kelly, 22, was pulled over by Patrolman Marlon Hernandez and K-9 Patrolman Joe Gamble for an unrelated traffic violation on Monday.
A search of Kelly's vehicle led to a shotgun that was believed to have been used in both robberies, Schlachter said.
A search of Kelly's apartment found additional evidence in the robberies.
That same apartment was also struck with shotgun pellets when Kelly allegedly fired at the two men in the incident that happened just across the street from his home.
There was extensive damage to his bedroom window, Schlachter said.
Kelly was charged with multiple offenses and is currently in the Atlantic county Justice facility pending a detention hearing.
