Brigantine police rescue child from near-drowning in pool

  • News

Brigantine police rescued a girl from drowning in a pool this weekend.
Police were called the Legacy Vacation Resort at 3:22 p.m. Saturday for the report of a missing 11-year-old girl.
Officers on the scene noticed the pool was cloudy, so Officer Kenneth Panas went into the water and found the girl at the bottom of the pool, according to the report.
Panas swam with the girl to the edge of the pool, where Sgt. Todd Devine and Officer Christopher Ludy started CPR, police said. Lt. Frank Hewitt also assisted.
The girl was then taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, and later transferred to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
Her condition was not available.
A preliminary investigation by Brigantine police with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office found that the girl was playing in the pool area and the incident was accidental.
No further information on this incident will be released due to the victim’s age and out of respect for the family's privacy, police said.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Detective William Ferris at 609-266-7414.
