Skeletal remains found in Galloway woods are of a male

  • News

Skeletal remains found in a wooded area in Galloway Township early Monday morning are from a male, according to the Atlantic County prosecutor.

BreakingAC first reported Tuesday that a skull was found on the land belonging to the Pomona Gunning Club, a representative from the club confirmed.

The remains were found by a man around 187 S. Pomona Road, Prosecutor Damon Tyner said Thursday.
An autopsy was performed, he said. No details were released other than the gender.

Galloway Police Chief Donna Higbee previously confirmed that police removed a cross from the area Tuesday that said "RIP: Next time pay your dues."

"We received a call from a nearby resident about the RIP sign erected in the area," Higbee said. "We responded and removed it right away."

Any information about the sign can be forwarded to Galloway Township police or the Prosecutor's Office, who is handling the case with help from Galloway Detective Tom Guercioni.

The cooperative investigation continues between the Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Galloway Township Police Department.

This story originally ran June 8. It has been updated with information from the Prosecutor's Office.
