Atlantic County sheriff officers helped save a man from an overdose after they arrested him on a fugitive warrant Friday.
Detectives Mark Allan, Dalton Rodriguez and Jordan Corona arrested the man in Hammonton, Sheriff Eric Scheffler said.
The suspect, whose name is not being released, was talking in the back of the patrol car when he started to slip in and out of consciousness, Scheffler said.
Realizing it may be a drug overdose, the officers gave him a dose of Narcan, and changed route to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus, according to the report.
They saw the suspect was not responding, and gave him a second Narcan dose, which brought him out of his comatose state "to a certain extent," Scheffler said.
The man was given a third dose at the hospital, where he became alert.|
Scheffler praised the officers' actions and said he believes they saved the man's life and "could not be prouder."
